The First Rose in my Bouquet of Life ~ Muriel Black
There are so many special moments in my life! My first breath, my first step, my first smile, my first word! Time flies so fast that it seems just yesterday, that I remember my first day of the first grade! My teacher's name was Mrs. Duckett, she seemed to be very tall and thin. ( I later learned that she was about 5'2"!) And then it seems that in just a few years I was getting ready to graduate from high school!
The person who has been beside me through my whole life is the most wonderful person of all! She gave me life! She held my hand as I took my first step, she held my hand on the first day of kindergarten, and then her wonderful hands created new dresses for me to wear everywhere! They were beautiful and won blue ribbons, she even made identical ones for my little sister to wear! It wasn't long until she created my beautiful velvet wedding dress! It fit perfectly and was exactly what I wanted. Her hands taught me to sew as well, (she was even more demanding than my sewing teacher in Home Ec!)Now I appreciate her making me "rip it out" and do it over! Her hands taught me to cook and bake which I still love to do! Then suddenly, I was all grown up and married! I love thinking about her hands as she held my first little boy,Paul David. She loved to rock him, and feed him, and give him a bath. He loved to go to her house as often as he could and sometimes he was there every weekend! Her hands were just as happy to hold,Cameron, my second son and baby him! He was so cuddly and happy. She weaned him from his bottle and babysat him whenever I needed her help. She has such a loving touch and warm lap! She has such a soft heart for babies and little children. Now, her loving hands are holding MY grandchildren! She is one of the most patient storybook readers! I wish I had a dollar for every book she has read to a child on her lap or snuggled up beside her! She started it with me and I still love to read!
Her hands are the happiest when she is sewing fabric or quilting a quilt! She has created so many beautiful quilts I can't even count them all! Each one is totally different.
She has been my strong rock in life and I love her with all of my heart! She is my best friend and is always ready to help me with anything that I need. I love to talk to her on the phone or when we get together we can talk for hours! I am so blesssed to have such a wonderful Mother!

I Got A New Rose Today!
I Love a rose! I always have. A dozen roses are even better. Being florist, I have seen a dozen roses cause many different reactions. Laughter... squeals of delight... tears of happiness... of sadness...what a wonderful delight to the nose! Nothing, I mean NOTHING, smells as good as a rose!
When I receive a bouquet of roses, like most women, I go through the rest of the day with a smile on my face! The sun is brighter! My day becomes "Special"!
While, at first glance, roses look exactly the same, look closer and really examine them and you will find that each one is very different. Some have a shade darker red and some have petals that have opened more than others around them. Some have many more thorns, some have a deeper fragrance and some have no fragrance at all! We accept those roses just as they are, don't we? I am thrilled with that kind of gift. (Did I already say that?)
Let's stop for a moment and think. We are a lot like roses, aren't we? We all look pretty similar, well most of us anyway, on the outside and yet we have such unique differences! It totally amazes me how creative God was when he designed us, the world and everything in it!
Today, I met a new friend. It was like getting a new rose! What a wonderful thing it is ,when God designs a new friend and puts them in your path. This is what happened...........
I was going to stop at Target, ....but for some reason, I can't remember why now, I stopped at
Wal Mart. There, in a crowded aisle ,another lady and I tried for the same cashier. "Oops, we bumped our carts". We began to talk and she invited my husband and I next door to her brand new coffee/smoothie shop. She was bright and cheerful, and since my husband had not had his latte of the day, we stopped next door to the Wal Mart at her new "Cuppies Coffee" . It had just opened yesterday. Within minutes I felt like I had known "Noor" for ever! She is from Yeman, but that didn't matter it just made her more intriguing! We found we had so many things in common, our anniversaries were close, our ages were the same. In just a short few minutes she shared things with me as if we were old friends! We even shed a few tears together, twice! At that moment, we become "heart sisters." After our short visit, I had a smile on my face for the rest of the day! The colors of life seemed so much brighter. I am forever changed by this friendship. I don't know if I will ever see Noor again. I plan to, and I hope it is in the not so distant future.
God just added another rose to my "life bouquet."
These kinds of rose friends are ones that you can talk to everyday, or go months and sometimes years without talking to them. Then you pick up right where you left off, just like it was yesterday! I Thank God for my new rose today! I hope I can be a rose for someone else!
